Review: Wenger NewArmy 61

If you are looking for cheap (camping) knife, then the Wenger NewArmy 61 folding knife might be what you are looking for. It is a genuine Swiss made knife like the famous Victorinox brand. In fact Wenger, was bought by Victorinox in 2005. Don’t expect top quality and perfect ergonomics from this knife. It has, however, decent capabilities and a nice 4″ blade. On the plus side are the tools that it comes with:

  • Small keyring
  • “Ring safety lock”
  • Screwdriver
  • Caplifter
  • Wire stripper
  • Corkscrew
  • Can opener
  • Reamer / awl with sewing eye

There are also downsides however:

  • Cheap plastic grips/material
  • Unknown metal
  • No pocket/belt clip
  • Ergonomics: right hand use only

For what it is, I think this knife will do good when you put it in your backpack or BOB. As an EDC knife I don’t think it will work well, especially since it lacks a pocket-clip.
